An Asian
Development Bank (ADB) study has pointed huge potential for power exchange in
the South Asian region.
However,
there is a need of cross border power transmission interconnections and regional
inter-connectivity of power systems, the recent study ‘SAARC Study on South Asia
Power Exchange’ prepared by Asian Development Bank stated.
“The study opens
up a myriad of windows for collaboration among SAARC member states in the
important field of energy,” the SAARC secretary general Ahemed Saleem said, receiving
the report from ADB country director at the Nepal Resident Mission Kenichi
Yokoyama, here today.
The 200-page
first of its kind report has also pointed out scenarios for nodal point supply
and demand in the SAARC region that needs to be covered by interconnected power
systems.
The report has also pointed
various possibilities for the energy cooperation and exchange in the power
starved region.
