Thapaliya was appointed as the new general manager of Nepal Stock Exchange
(Nepse) and Shankar Man Singh as executive director of Special Economic Zone
(SEZ) Development Committee by the Cabinet meeting today.
Thapaliya is a seasoned investor in the capital market who was serving as the president of Nepal Investors’ Forum when he applied for the position. Likewise, he has also served as a board member of Agriculture Development Bank and Bank of Kathmandu, along with working as a director at the Securities Board of Nepal's executive board.
The Public Enterprise Development Board had shortlisted three candidates — Shankar Man Singh, Sitaram Thapaliya and Dilli Raj Aryal —almost two weeks ago for the final selection on Friday.
Nepse had been without a general manager since January 2013 after then GM Shankar Man Singh’s tenure was over. With the new general manager in place, Nepse is expected to speed up replacing the existing trading system.
Likewwise, Singh has been
appointed as executive director of Special Economic Zone Development Committee
that looks after the Special Economic Zones that have been envisioned to boost
