Premium Beverages and Food — official franchisee of Barista Lavazza — is bringing a global coffee brand to Nepal.
The international coffee chain's outlet Lavazza's first café will be opened in Lazimpat, Kathmandu on Thursday, according to Premium Beverages and Food that has Ravi Bhakta Shrestha as its chairman and Shyam Sundar Lal Kakshapati as managing director.
Barista Lavazza is a chain of espresso bars in India. Established in February 2000 under the name Barista, it was taken over by Lavazza in 2007, a world-famous enterprise that continues to be Italy’s top-ranking coffee company.
Headquartered in Okhla, Barista currently has espresso bars across India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and the Middle East. It was established in February 2000 by Barista Coffee Company Limited. A 34.3 per cent equity stake was sold to Tata Coffee in 2001.
C Sivasankaran bought the remaining 65 per cent in Barista from the Amit Judge-controlled Turner Morrison in 2004, and his Sterling Group also bought out Tata Coffee's stake later. In 2007, the Sterling Group sold Barista to Lavazza. Barista Lavazza is currently owned by Lavazza.
