The sixth
South Asia Economic Summit kicked off today in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
The three-day
summit with the theme ‘Towards a stronger, dynamic and inclusive South Asia,’
was inaugurated by deputy minister of finance and planning of Sri Lanka Dr
Sarath Amunugama.
Hosted by Institute
of Policy Studies – an apex think tank of Sri Lanka – the summit will see eminent
personalities from academia, government, civil society and private sector from
the SAARC member countries.
“The summit
has become an important platform for the South Asian researchers, academicians,
businesspersons and government representatives,” SAARC secretary-general Ahmed
Saleem, on the occasion.
“It has been helping exchange
their opinions on issues having an impact on economic integration of the South
Asia,” he said, adding that the last five summits have been instrumental in
generating views and ideas for consideration of the policy makers in our region.
