NTA relaxes type approval certification

Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has relaxed the type approval certification procedures.
The authority today issued the consultation paper on ´Type Approval Procedure of Radio Telecommunications Customer-Provided Equipments (CPEs).
Earlier, it was mandatory for all the mobile sets to receive type approval certification before being sold in the market.
Since the mobile density is increasing with the number of cheap handsets entering the country, the certification procedure has been relaxed until a new provision, it said, adding that the authority has discussed with the stakeholders before relaxing the certification.
From now onwards, the traders should make commitment to provide warranty or guarantee on their products, set up repair or service centers and provide compensation for injury caused by faulty handsets, according to the new rule that has also set the benchmark values for battery parameter like nominal voltage, maximum and minimum charge voltage and receiver sensitivity and specific absorption rate of handsets.
