ADB recognises project teams to improve lives of rural poor

Finance secretary Rameshwor Khanal today presented three ADB supported projects -- Community Livestock Development Project (CLDP), Road connectivity Sector I Project (RCSP) and Decentralised Rural Infrastructure and Livelihood Project (DRILP) -- with Outstanding Project Management Team Awards.
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) Nepal mission has instituted the Outstanding Project Management Team Award in 1996 to motivate and encourage ADB project teams.
"These awards recognise the projects teams' excellent performance, efficiency in implementation and achievements of target -- both statistical as well as on the ground," said Barry J Hitchcock, country director, Nepal Resident Mission of the Manila-based bank.
The CLDP aims to reduce incidence of poverty in rural areas of 48 districts through an intensive livestock programme. It has helped increase per capita income of beneficiary households significantly, said the ADB.
Similarly, RCSP I Project aims to support construction and upgrading of 10 feeder roads measuring a total of around 490 km. The first ADB sector modality intervention project in transport sector, this project aims to complete all the roads construction to be completed by 2013.
The DRILP aims to reduce poverty in 18 very poor remote hill and mountain districts affected by conflicts. All the three projects are supported by the ADB.
The finance secretary presented the awards to the winning projects at a special ceremony held in conjunction with ADB's annual Country Portfolio Review Workshop in Kathmandu.
The 2010 Nepal Country Portfolio Review workshop is organised by ADB in association with the Finance Ministry to prepare for Nepal Portfolio Performance Review (NPPR) scheduled for September 9-10.
During the workshop, key sector and project related issues will be discussed, challenges identified and specific actions will be recommended for further improvement in project implementations.
