Shesh Ghale re-elected as NRNA president

Shesh Ghale has been today elected as the president of Non-Resident Nepalese Association (NRNA) with an overwhelming majority for the second term.
He secured 867 votes – out of the total 1,089 votes – while his contender TB Karki garnered just 226 votes.
Likewise, Bhawan Bhatta has been elected as the vice president securing 538 votes. His contender Kumar Pandey secured 513 votes. Dr Badri KC with 555 votes has been elected as the general secretary and Hitmat Thapa with 264 votes as treasurer of the NRNA for next two-year term.
The reelected president of the NRNA Ghale is constructing a five-star hotel in Kathmandu. Prime Minister Sushil Koirala had laid foundation stone of the 17-storey five-star Sheraton Kathmandu Hotel last October. The hotel is being built with an investment of Rs 8 billion. The hotel, which is expected to come into operation in February 2018, is being built by MIT Group Holdings Nepal, a member of the Ghale Group of Companies, which has diverse businesses in Australia and other countries too.
Ghale has also been appointed Nepal's special envoy for reconstruction in the aftermath of the devastating earthquakes of April 25 that floored down thousands of houses, infrastructures and heritage sites, apartfrom loss of lives.

After Sheraton, Marriott enters Nepal

After Sheraton, another global hotel chain Marriott International is planning to enter Nepal.

Marriott International – a leading hotel chain based in Maryland, US – has signed a management agreement with Nepal Hospitality Group (NHG) – under MS Group, one of Nepal’s leading business conglomerates – to open a four-star property Fairfield Marriott Kathmandu at Thamel in Kathmandu.

Though, the global FMCG chain is also mulling to establish a five-star hotel at Naxal in Kathmandu,  Marriott is going to look after the management of Fairfield Marriott Kathmandu, said vice president of MS Group Shashi Kant Agrawal, after signing the agreement here today.  

The proposed 10-storey property under construction currently will have 108 rooms and spread over two-and-a-half ropanis of land, he said, adding that the hotel will start its operation from 2016.

“It is estimated to cost around Rs 650 million,” he added. “Fairfield Marriott Kathmandu will provide branded, quality and consistent hospitality excellence that the Fairfield Marriott offers worldwide.”
“We are delighted to have signed the new Fairfield hotel in Nepal with Nepal Hospitality Group,” Marriott International’s president and managing director, Asia, Simon Cooper, said, on the occasion. “We have redesigned and configured the brand specifically for the South Asian market,” he said, adding that the company is excited that it will be its first hotel in Nepal when it opens in 2016

With 700 Fairfield properties throughout North America, the Marriott International is current in expansion spree in Asia and South America.

It reported revenues of nearly $12 billion in the fiscal year 2012. The company operates and franchises hotels and licenses vacation ownership resorts under 18 brands.

Earlier, a Non-Resident Nepali from Australia Shesh Ghale has also signed an agreement with Sheraton to construct a Australian dollar 75-80 million five-star Sheraton Kathmandu Hotel at Kantipath in Kathmandu.

Ghale’s MIT Group Holding Nepal had signed the agreement with Starwood Hotels and Resort Worldwide Inc for the five star property with 225-room to be opened in February 2018.

Ghale (54) is on the 200 wealthiest Australians list with a fortune of $225 million.

Sheraton, Shesh Ghale’s MIT Group join hands to open five star hotel in Kathmandu

Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, Inc, and MIT Group Holdings Nepal, led by Shesh Ghale, a Non-Resident Nepali (NRN), have signed a deal to start a five-star hotel in Kathmandu.

Sheraton Kathmandu Hotel, owned by MIT Group Holdings Nepal and managed by Starwood, is slated to open on February 1, 2018. The 225-room luxury hotel will be located in Kantipath on an area spanning over 1,539 square metres. "Sheraton Kathmandu Hotel will be within walking distance from Thamel, a popular tourist destination in Kathmandu," said the global hospitality giant, which operates luxury hotels ans resorts worldwide under the Sheraton brand, in a press statement. "We are also close to the former royal palace, now a museum, as well as many of the city’s attractions, businesses, and embassies."

"All amenities in the hotel will have signature Sheraton Sweet Sleeper," said Starwood. "The hotel will also work as a business centre."

According to MIT Group Holdings Nepal, the five-star hotel development project will cost around Rs 7 billion. Ghale, a successful entrepreneur based in Australia, had announced during a conference of the Non-Resident Nepali Association in Kathmandu in October last year that his company would open a luxury hotel in the Capital city. However, everything in relation to opening of the hotel and its branding had been under wraps.

Ghale — who is 166th richest person in Australia — has invested in education and real estate sector in Australia and abroad. According to Business Review Weekly — that has listed him as one of the wealthiest persons in Australia — Ghale’s wealth stands at Rs 153 billion.

Starwood currently operates 34 hotels and resorts worldwide while about 24 new hotels and resorts are under construction. Starwood, which has been in South Asia since 1973, is aiming at operating about 100 hotels and resorts in the region by 2015. The American hotel and leisure company is also opening a new hotel in Ahmadabad in India on December 2013.

The Sheraton brand was earlier associated with the Everest Hotel.
