Every day in an average some 1,402 tourists landed at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in August, according to the visitor arrivals figure.
Nepal recorded some 43,487 tourist arrivals — in August — that is an increment by 26.4 per cent compared to the same month last year by air, said the Nepal Tourism Board. "Robust growth in arrivals from South Asian region and China that posted an increase of 38.7 per cent and 157.6 per cent propelled the tourist arrivals."
Arrivals from India — the major tourist generating market — increased by 50 per cent compared to the same month last year, whereas arrivals from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Pakistan registered negative growth of 20.9 per cent, 11.7 per cent and one per cent, respectively compared to the same month last year, the figures revealed.
Asia — except South Asian region — also maintained the upward trend with the growth of 57.2 per cent in total. "An encouraging growth from China has been observed with 157.6 per cent growth," it said, adding that the arrivals from Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand also registered positive growth of 9.5 per cent, 95.2 per cent, 51.6 per cent and 55.6 per cent. However, South Korean arrivals declined with10.7 per cent compared to the same month last year.
In the long-haul markets, Europe registered overall positive growth of 0.9 per cent with major source markets showing positive trend in terms of visitor arrivals. Visitors from Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Sweden and UK were up by 28.2 per cent, 16.2 per cent, 51.5 per cent, 9.3 per cent, 7.5 per cent, and three per cent respectively whereas the arrivals from France, Netherlands, Russia and Spain were down by 13.8 per cent, 11 per cent, 31.2 per cent and 10.3 per cent, the NTB said, adding that visitor arrivals from Australia and New Zealand also posted growth of 19.7 per cent and seven per cent, respectively. "Similarly, the US and Canada registered positive growth of 16.9 per cent and 33 per cent, respectively."
The country observed a growth of 7.9 per cent in the arrivals from the European region during the first eight months of this year (January to August) compared to the same period last year.
According to NTB, there has been steady rise in visitor arrivals in the beginning of the month January and the trend has continued throughout the eight months recording a cumulative growth of 24.6 per cent.
A total of 49,858 foreign tourists departed from Nepal in August, whereas some 52,811 Nepalis arrived and 64,326 Nepalis departed from the TIA in August.
