Will there be another lockdown

The government today ‘signalled’ at imposing lockdown, again, to check the further spread of the coronavirus as the Covid-19 cases are making new records every day.

Speaking at a regular press meet to inform the decisions of cabinet, foreign minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, who is also the government spokesperson, said that the government is forced to make harsh decisions to save the lives of its citizens. “The government doesn’t want to impose another lockdown as the festive season is near,” he said, adding, however, saving the lives of citizens is the government's priority. “So, the government might take harsh decisions to save the lives of people.”

The Health Ministry had recommended the government to impose lockdown after the 25,000 active Covid-19 cases but the active cases has surpassed 30,000, whereas total coronavirus cases has surpassed 100,000. “With 2,071 new cases in the last 24 hours, Nepal recorded a total of 107,755 coronavirus cases today,” according to the Health Ministry. "Twenty-two new fatalities were reported today, taking the tally to 636."

Requesting the people to be aware of the severity of the pandemic, he informed that the government authorities have been analysing the Covid-19 situation in the country. “If people are aware, the situation will be under control without the government taking any harsh decisions.”

Earlier, the government had imposed a nationwide lockdown from March 24 to July 21 – for 120 days – to curb the spread of coronavirus. The Covid-19 cases have increased sharply shortly after the government lifted the lockdown.
