Krishna Tamrakar bags Communicator Award

Krishna Tamrakar – the legendary voice from Radio Nepal – bagged Communicator Award.
Toastmasters Nepal recognised Krishna Tamrakar with the 2019 Communicator Award on the occasion of Toastmasters Nepal’s annual conference in Kathmandu today.
Tamrakar, who is 82 years old, still runs two FM programmes. A cancers survivor, she runs ‘Asha’ a radio programme for cancer awareness. She was the voice for Radio Nepal for 31 years, many still recall her famed opening ‘Yo Radio Nepal ho, aba Krishna Tamrakar bata samachar sunnuhos’. The award is presented each year to a non-toastmaster member for their communication and leadership contributions to the country.
The annual conference – a reflection of the immense growth this community has had in the past year – of Toastmasters Nepal was attended by some 350 members representing 30 clubs from across the country. The participants represented various community clubs, companies, professional associations and educational institutions. On the occasion, DTM at the the International President of Toastmasters International Deepak Menon delivered the keynote speech.
On the occasion, the finalists for the Evaluation and Humorous Speech Contests battled in the final round. The winner of the Evaluation Contest was Priya Chapagain from KU-SOM Toastmasters Club and the Humorous Speech Contest winner was Kushma KC from Laxmi Bank Toastmasters Club, both from Area A5. Both the winners will proceed to the district-level contests being held in May 2020 in New Delhi, India. The contests are organised as per the guidelines prescribed by Toastmasters International, which also hosts the World Championship of Public Speaking.
The programme also featured a panel discussion on the topic ‘Leadership through Communication’ with panelists Suman Shakya DTM, Ranjit Acharya DTM, Jennifer Ghosh DTM, and the International President Deepak Menon DTM. The discussion was moderated by Moon Pradhan DTM. When asked about the increasing Toastmasters influence, DTM Acharya said, “We are creating cross pollination throughout the district and beyond. Effective evaluation and mentorship programs are being rolled out in Nepal.”
Likewise, DTM Shakya said, “If we do the basics right, everything falls into place. If running clubs in the right way with standards goes well for Nepal, it could be replicated outside the country."
The second issue of Inkspire, the newsletter of Division A, District 41 (Nepal Toastmasters) for the year 2019-20 was also launched during the event.

Toastmaster’s conference concludes

The first ever division conference of Toastmaster’s of Nepal concluded in Kathmandu today.
More than 250 members attended the conference from 14 different clubs in Nepal.
A distinguished toastmaster from Bangalore in India Dr Rajdeep Manwani delivered his keynote address and conducted a talk session in the conference. Dr Manwani is an academician, trainer, motivational speaker, life coach, counselor and quizmaster par excellence both by training and by choice. He is a triple postgraduate and a PhD having completed his MCom, MBA and MPhil and also a doctorate in commerce on the topic Strategic evaluation of training in commercial banks.
Nepal Toastmasters, on the occasion, also recognised and awarded a media personality 'Communication Award 2018' to Dr Swarnim Wagle, who was chosen by an eminent panel of jury members on the very day. This is the first of its kind award, which is awarded to a non-toastmaster member by the fraternity. Nepal Tournaments has announced to hand over the award every year.
On this special occasion Toastmaster also launched official website of Nepal.
"We are proud to have organised the first ever all Nepal Toastmaster Conference today," the division director of Nepal distinguished Toastmaster Ranjit Acharya said, "Almost 50% members participated and benefitted today. Learn, lead and leverage was our theme and we are hopeful that we could deliver the same to our members.”
