Police today arrested one of the accused allegedly involved in the ATM hacking scam of Agricultural Development Bank Limited (ADBL) last September.
A permanent resident of Banbasa of Champawat district in Uttarakhand of India has been arrested on charge of his involvement in the ATM hacking scam of ADBL, confirmed Metropolitan Police Crime Division (MPCD). He has been charged for alleged involvement in stealing Rs 47.3 million from various ATM kiosks of the ADBL. A joint team mobilised by the MPCD and the District Police Office, Kanchanpur arrested him and handed him to Metropolitan Police Range Office at Teku in Kathmandu, the MPCD informed.
Chief of MPCD Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Deepak Thapa informed that the 55-year-old accused was nabbed from Gadda Chauki of Kanchanpur district in far western Nepal. The accused had stolen ADBL’s online password, transferred the money to several accounts and withdrawn the money from various ATM kiosks across the country.
Police has filed several cases against 37 alleged for their involvement in the scam. But the police has been able to nab only 20 defendants till now, and 17 are still absconding.
