Nepal has recorded highest single day infections as a whopping 5,008 Covid-19 cases were detected on Saturday, to take the national tally to 105,684.
Likewise, the number of Covid-19 fatalities reached 614 with 14 deaths reported in the past 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry.
Some 1,229 people have been discharged upon testing negative for the infection in the last 24 hours, the ministry informed, adding that some 74,252 people have recovered from Covid in Nepal so far. “But the number of active cases in the country stands at 30,818 today.”
The Health Ministry had earlier recommended the government to impose lockdown or issue prohibitory order, when the active cases exceeded 25,000.
Currently, some 4,686 people are quarantined in various facilities across the country.
According to the ministry, Kathmandu Valley has recorded 2,672 new infections, the highest daily surge, in the last 24 hours. “Of them, some 2,100 cases were reported in Kathmandu, some 369 in Lalitpur and 203 in Bhaktapur.”
The number of cases in the Valley has reached 40,370 as of today. A total of 37,872 cases have been detected after the three district administration offices in Kathmandu Valley imposed prohibitory orders on August 19. The country has seen 87,690 infections and 574 deaths since July 22. There were 17,994 cases and 40 Covid-19-related deaths until July 21, when the government decided to end the nationwide lockdown after four months.
“A total of 19,320 PCR tests were performed in the past 24 hours,” spokesperson for the ministry Dr Jageshwar Gautam said.
