The government has felicitated returnee migrant workers, who are staying back in the country operating their own enterprises.
Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security (MoLESS) honoured them for setting an example of entrepreneurship in the country. The returnee migrants were felicitated for their dedication in the agriculture, steel and garment sectors, the ministry said, encouraging them for being a source of inspiration for those, who return from foreign jobs and want to start a business in Nepal.
Owner of Kantipur Poultry Breeding Firm of Bara Nabaraj Poudel was selected the most excellent returnee migrant entrepreneur of the year and was awarded a cash prize of Rs 100,000, whereas Dipak Chapagain of Jhapa, Nir Bahadur Raut and Ek Bahadur Syangtang of Bhojpur (jointly), Manoj Kumar Bharati of Makawanpur, Sharmila Adhikari of Jhapa and Trilok Paneru of Kailali were also honoured with a purse of Rs 50,000 for their entrepreneurial initiatives.
Of the five honoured at the ceremony, three are returnee migrant workers from South Korea.
Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security Gokarna Bista, felicitating the returnee migrant workers, said that it is just a small step towards promoting entrepreneurship in the country.
Use of local resources, amount of investment, tax compliance, employment creation, energy consumption, feasibility and whether their goods were exportable items are among the criterion fixed by the ministry for the award.
The ministry had, earlier, had published a notice seeking applications for the award.
Last year too, the government had honoured eight returnee migrant workers to encourage them to embrace entrepreneurship.
