The
government has been planning to promote mini hydro.
“The government is preparing a policy to promote hydropower projects of up to 10 MW as mini hydro projects,” said secretary at the ministry of science, technology and environment Dr Somlal Subedi in an interaction here today.
The country has tremendous
opportunity for mini hydel projects, he said, adding that the ministry has been
exploring the possibility of on-grid and off-grid projects in the category. “The government is preparing a policy to promote hydropower projects of up to 10 MW as mini hydro projects,” said secretary at the ministry of science, technology and environment Dr Somlal Subedi in an interaction here today.
Micro hydropower projects below three megawatt have been providing electricity to around 300,000 people in the country.
According to the figures, around 2,000 hydropower projects are operational in the country, at present.
