The
government has officially launched a portal for transparency and accountability
of the development assistance.
The better
management of foreign development assistance will not only increase transparency
but output too, said finance secretary Shanta Raj Subedi launching the ‘Aid
Management Platform’, here today.
Aid
Management Platform is an online website that was developed in 2010 with the
support of UNDP, DFID and Denmark through the Developing Capacities for
Effective Aid Management and Coordination Project for the aid effectiveness.
The government is committed to maintaining transparency, accountability and economic discipline, he said, adding that the portal will help the government to maintain the transparency.
UNDP country director Shoko
Noda on the occasion said that the portal would help promote transparency, accountability
and would play a key role to improve programme quality and principles of aid
effectiveness. The government is committed to maintaining transparency, accountability and economic discipline, he said, adding that the portal will help the government to maintain the transparency.
The portal www.portal.mof.gov.np has details of around 700 development projects of some 40 development partners.
After the bilateral and multilateral development partners, the government is planning to bring INGOs and local NGOs to the red book that will help track the people, where has the aid money that came into the country for them has disappeared.
The country has been receiving foreign aid since last six decades, but the development experts have started questioning its effectiveness. The donors have also come under pressure after International Aid Transparency Initiative that has started tracking the donors countries' taxpayers money.
