Turkey keen to invest in Nepal

Turkey is ready to invest in productive sector of Nepal, according to the visiting Turkish representatives.

"Turkey wants to be development partner of Nepal," Consul General of Turkey to Nepal Dr Fatma Günseli Malkoç told finance minister Shankar Prasad Koirala during the bilateral talks in the latter's office in Singh Durbar, today.

Turkey that has become the fourth largest government donor of humanitarian assistance across the world in 2012, contributing over $1 billion, which is 0.13 per cent of its national wealth – has been working in over 100 countries as a development partner, said Malkoç, who led a team of representatives of Turkish prime minister chaired committee that looks after international assistance.

Last year, some Turkish investors visited Nepal in search of potential investment sectors, she said, adding that she wants to strengthen the bilateral relation between the two countries.

As Nepal has been on a mission to graduate from Least Developed Countries (LDCs) to Developing Countries status by 2022, we need active cooperation of the development partners, Koirala said on the occasion.

Asking to invest in energy, transmission line and infrastructure sectors in Nepal, he said to replicate the success of Turkish development in Nepal. "The government has created investment-friendly environment," he added.
