NRNs offer to help promote domestic products, urge to have bar code



Nepali diaspora has offered its help in promoting domestic exports.
However, the exporters need to launch target specific promotional campaign to boost exports in the foreign markets, they said.
“Non-Resident Nepalis (NRNs) will help provide logistic support to search business opportunities, though it’s the responsibility of exporters and manufacturers themselves,” said NRN Association president Jiba Lamichhane during an interaction organised by Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) here today.
The Nepali diaspora is extended in more than 65 countries , but there is no Nepal embassy in more than 32 countries, he said, adding that NRNs have invested in hydropower, media, telecommunications and tourism in the country. “The NRNs have invested in more than 20 MW of hydropower.”
Established in 2003, the NRNA has currently about 500,000 members across 65 nations. It will also help promote market in the foreign lands.
However, the absence of bar code has resulted in problems in packaging and quality of Nepali goods, he said. “There is a high potential of Nepali goods in the international market provided there is bar code.”
A bar-code is an optical machine readable representation of data relating to the object it is attached on, helping buyers identity Nepali products.
One of the aims of the association is to encourage NRNs to contribute to economic and social development of Nepal.
