The finance
ministers of South Asia are meeting on Friday in Colombo of Sri Lanka to discuss South Asian Free Trade Agreement (SAFTA), protection of investment and building
economic association.
The meeting
will also focus on increasing investment in the South Asian region, said finance
minister Shankar Prasad Koirala today, before leaving Kathmandu for Colombo.
He is leading a Nepali delegation to the meeting of finance ministers of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) that will further explore ways to investment security and investments. They will also discuss on the means to shield the region from global financial crisis.

The meeting
will finalise and approve the decisions of the fifth meeting held last year
in Dhaka of Bangladesh. A meeting of SAARC Development Fund will also be held
in the sidelines of the finance ministers.
A day ago,
SAARC nations’ finance secretaries will also meet to discuss and finalise
agendas for the ministerial-level meeting. Finance secretary
Shanta Raj Subedi will take part in the SAARC finance secretaries meeting.
Likewise, chief of the
International Economic Cooperation and Coordination Division Madhu Kumar
Marasini and under secretary of the ministry Kailashraj Pokharel have already reached
Colombo to take part in the SAARC Development Fund and preparation for the
secretary-level meeting.
