Sudden change in weather forces airlines divert, delay

The sudden downpour today has forced the international and domestic airlines to delay their flights for an hour.
“No flights could take off and land from 11 am to 12 noon, for one hour,” according to Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA) authority. “The airport remained closed for an hour,” it said, adding that a Dragon Air flight has been diverted to Baghdogra of India due to closure.
The airport handles some 240 domestic and 70 international flights take off and land in a normal day.
Though the normal rain does not affect the visibility of the airport, today’s downpour for an hour caused the visibility problem forcing the airport authority to close the airport.
Likewise, the extreme weather condition also disrupted mountain flights. Out of 25 flights, only eight flights could make it to sight-seeing.
