Private sector decries government apathy

The private sector has called for an early election for economic development and a solution to the current political impasse.

"The incumbent government and other political parties must include economic agenda in their deal," said president of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) Suraj Vaidya, here today.

"The private sector wants a guarantee of a timely budget that could lead the country towards development," he said, adding that without economic development not a single country in the world has achieved political stability.

Some nine business organisations came together today to press for an economic agenda to be included in the political agreement after the business fraternity felt that they have been dogged by extortions, corruption and absence of rule of law.

The government is more revenue driven and cares less about development, said president of Federation of Contractors' Association of Nepal (FCAN) Jaya Ram Lamichhane.
"A timely budget is key to development in the country," he added.

Likewise, president of Higher Secondary School Association Nepal Umesh Shrestha blasted the incumbent government for its visionless policies. "The government does not consult the private sector while preparing policies and tries to implement them unilaterally," he blamed, adding that the government has created policy-terror.
