Goverment plans Air Transport Safety Board

Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation is planning to form an autonomous body – an Air Transport Safety Board – that will study for enhancing aviation safety.
A year ago, a high level task-force – led by former director general of Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) Medini Prasad Sharma – to study safety compliance had recommended an autonomous body to look into air safety.
The minister has asked to form a committee to prepare legal teeth and its jurisdiction.
However, Finance Ministry has to allocate budget for the proposed board that will include aviation experts and representatives from airlines operators.
Currently, the government forms an investigation commission after every air crash.
