Finance
secretary Krishnahari Baskota urged the South Asian countries to explore
regional investment opportunities.
"South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) should move ahead for investment protection and promotion framework agreement creating for better investment opportunities in the region," he said in the Finance Minister's meeting of South Asia in the sideline of 45th annual meeting of Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Manila, Philippines.
"SAARC member countries should increase bilateral and multilateral cooperation among the members according to the spirit of the regional organisation," he said, adding that South Asian countries must increase their trade among themselves and explore investment possibilities within the region.
Nepali delegation participated in ADB under the leadership of outgoing state minister for finance Hariraj Khewa Limbu, who also met officials of European Bank, Kuwati Fund, delegation of Denmark and officials from other countries and sought for their help in expediting the economic and trade ties.
"We discussed on mutual cooperation," Baskota said after he arrived Kathmandu Monday afternoon.
The delegation has requested ADB president Haruhiko Kuroda to complete Melanchi drinking water project as soon as possible along with financial support to start Upper Seti hydropower located in Tanahun district.
The ADB officials also assured to provide necessary support.
Filipino finance minister has chaired the meeting while Nepal and Germany handled the duty of vice chairs of the meeting.
The 46th annual meeting of ADB will be held in New Delhi, India in 2013.
